Top 5 Spring 2009 Shooter Games
Looks like spring’s the season to be jolly with these upcoming titles. Some of these shooters have been keeping gamers on constant watch for over a year now, and finally the release dates have been finalized. There are titles that have already hit the shelves, and some which will be available near-Summer. Nonetheless, they’re seeing release during the season of spring, and will hopefully make the wait worthwhile. In no particular order, here are five of the most anticipated releases of Spring 2009.
Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars
They could’ve waited for the release of Nintendo DSi in April before releasing this game. Still, this action-packed handheld console game is set to do justice to the series. Will 13 be their lucky number? This thirteenth instalment in Grand Theft Auto might just be the DS game of the season. GTA: Chinatown Wars also portray a never-before-seen cell-shaded animation, giving this game a comic book feel. For GTA veterans, you might get a little thrown off by the aerial camera angle though. Veering off from the third person viewpoint, this fully rotational camera might take some time to get used to. The ssd benefit greatly outweighs those of standard hard drives, for a more complete media storage experience.
The Godfather II
Take yourself back to the 1974 Mafia scene and relive Francis Ford Coppola’s Godfather II. This is a direct follow-up to EA’s Godfather: The Game released in 2006. Since it took them three years to come up with the sequel, it better be worth it. Very few movie adaptations make it in the gaming world. Godfather: The Game was one of them. Chances are this instalment will not disappoint either. Still based on the movie, in this version you are able to control the Corleone clan amidst the backdrop of the Cuban revolution. Deemed to be both action-packed and strategic, you can run-and-gun in the streets, or brew your plot through the eyes of The Don. Coming to EU on April 10.
inFAMOUS
Did I hear someone say Fallout 3? Oh sorry, you meant the other sandbox-style nonlinear RPG shooter game that’s based on surrealism, inFAMOUS. Though the company may not be a big player in terms of game development, they have made their mark with the Sly Cooper series on the PS2. They’re back, this time as an electrocuting action-superhero that can opt to be good, or eviiiil. Hmm, interesting concept, which can go either way. Let’s just hope that we won’t think grass is greener on the other side of the fence once we purchase this game. We’ll find out by June.
Batman: Arkham Asylum
It was probably the late Heath Ledger’s portrayal of Joker that inspired this game. DC Comics aficionados all know that Arkham Asylum is Gotham City’s institution for the criminally insane. We’re in for an action-packed treat with the dark knight, not only giving us a peek into Batman’s combat skills but also his inquisitive detective tendencies as well. We’re hoping this game will drive us crazy will delight come June 9.
Ghostbusters: The Game
Coinciding with the first movie’s 25 th anniversary, Ghostbusters: The Game is set to be the most successful movie-adaptation in the gaming world. Set two years after Ghostbusters II, this game was penned by original movie writers and Ghostbusters, Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd. There have been a lot of rumours since the 80s of a third movie sequel. This may just be it. Even better, because it’s interactive, it’s graphically exciting, and faithful to the movie. Fans will revel in their face-to-face encounter with Gozer, Stay Puft, Slimer, and more. Who You Gonna Call? You know who, but you won’t get to touch that ringer till June 19 in EU. |
