20th Century Ghosts by Joe Hill

20 th Century Ghosts is a collection of short stories. Each one attempts to chill you in a different way, so that no-one is left wanting. So curl up in a chair or on the sofa, get a blanket, and read on.

This book is quite good. Hill, being the son of Stephen King and an acclaimed author in his own right, is very good at the creepy-crawly horror. The questions that Hill asks in these stories will also leave you unsettled and uneasy, something that is a hallmark of a great horror book.

This book really disturbed me. It was good, no doubt, but it was just a little too real in some places for my liking. The fact that Stephen King is Hill’s father really shows through in the places where the dark stories turn macabre and, sometimes, just plain evil.

Some of the story lines in 20 th Century Ghosts could do with a bit more substance. As they are short stories though, that is to be expected. Also, the genre in the book isn’t strictly ‘horror’. There are horror stories, science-fiction and even some straight fiction. Regardless of the story though, they always have a ‘creepy’ factor.

I thought that this book would be about modern ghosts when I first bought it. I am quite pleased with what it is though, and that is a book of stories that are unsettling and strange. I would recommend it to any reader over the age of 15.
